At last, a photo from a random lot with enough information to possibly identify the person and return it to her or her family. This is a photo of Gladys Nasshorn taken at Masten Lake on September 4, 1936. Masten Lakes is in Sullivan County, New York, in the Catskills.
Edited to add: I find her in the 1940 census, parents are Henry and Gussie, brothers Nat, Dave, Gerald. She is 19 in the 1940 census and lives in New York, New York.
Thanks for putting this picture online. Gladys's biological mother was Dora Hirschhorn who died 27 April 1928. Gussie Banner was Henry's second wife, they married 27 March 1929. Dora was a sister to Isador Hirschhorn, one of my Great Grandfathers. All of what I have found of the Nasshorn family genealogy I have put in the Family Tree on FamilySearch.org. I will probably post this photo of Gladys on there as well. I have not yet found out who she married or what happened to her.
ReplyDeleteI am her daughter. Ive never seen tjis photo before.I would appreciate knowing more of how you got this photo of my mom.My e mail Harrison.jodi23@gmail.com
DeleteThis photo was among a batch I bought on ebay. It's been 10 years or longer since I bought the photos so I can't be more specific. One ebay seller I used to buy photos from was a woman who cleaned out houses being foreclosed, she often found photo collections doing that. I think the photo came from her but I don't know, I looked on ebay but the sale was too long ago to find specifics.
DeleteI'm glad to know that someone knows who she was. I hope your efforts lead to finding Gladys' family.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - Can you drop me an email at cdhorn at embarqmail dot com? There were other pictures with this one of Gladys? Like a box of them? I am curious how you came by them, and if there is a set of them if you could share or if I pay for shipping if you would send them to me. Thanks, Chris
ReplyDeleteI bought the photos several years ago on eBay. I bought from a few different sellers there,I am not sure which specific one I bought from. I will look for the photos later today and get in touch with you.
DeleteJust checked here as had not heard anything and saw your reply. Were you able to find them by chance?
DeleteThanks,
Chris
I looked through my photos today. Unfortunately my apartment had a roof leak last summer and I had to throw some photos out as they got ruined from the water. I no longer have this photo so it must have been among those ruined. There were no other photos identified as Glady's and no photos that looked like her. I bought them from a person on e-bay who lives in the Reading, PA area and cleans out houses repossessed by banks. The photos come from more than one house and 95% of them have no names or anything written on the back. I did scan this at high resolution so it should reprint well.
DeleteBummer! Hope there was not too much damage from the leak. Thank you for looking. I have shared this in my tree on Ancestry.com and in the FamilySearch family tree so any Nasshorn descendants working on their genealogy someday will hopefully come across and see it.
DeleteThanks,
Chris
